About the Volunteering Study

Individuals vary in terms of their characteristics (e.g. personality) and volunteer organisations vary in terms of their work characteristics and values. Non-profit organisations need volunteers and must find cost effective ways to attract, motivate and retain volunteers. The current study is investigating why individuals volunteer, looking particularly at personality, identity, values, work characteristics, and ‘fit’ with a volunteering role or the volunteering organisation.

This study aims to find the links between personality and the characteristics of a volunteer job and organisation to see how we can attract more people to volunteer who don’t normally volunteer.
